Student artist creates superhero

Central State student Josiah Allen is a fan of strong women. That’s why he created one as part of his comic strip.

“Having a character in my artwork that is a female hero was to show that anybody can help make a change no matter who or what you are,” Allen said.

Allen’s artwork can currently be seen in the student art show in the gallery in Paul Robeson Auditorium. “Having my artwork displayed in this gallery is a big step for me,” Allen said. “It’s the first step of opening the doors to my dreams.”

As a child growing up in school, Allen was bullied and had a hard time sticking up for himself. Due to that experience, he embraced the issue of bullying in his artwork. “I think my short comic is similar to what kids go through in school today. That’s why I wanted to have this issue in my comic,” Allen said.

Central State professor Mitchell Eismont believes that the best work comes from personal experiences.

Allen’s hopes to become an illustrator, cartoonist, magna artist, and animator.
