More than 100 students moved into the university's newest residence hall over Homecoming weekend, while others remain in temporary housing on campus.
“Living in the new residence complex has been a decent experience,” Senior Nnezarrhea Durham said. ”I am enjoying my stay so far.”
Living in the new dorm comes with one unusual challenge: construction noise. Durham said that crews working on the unfunished wing of the hall begin working early in the morning. “I believe they should set a time when they work, so we aren’t bothered throughout the day. “
The new, as yet unnamed, residence hall will eventually house 250 students. It offers four bedroom, two bedroom, and studio units. Each unit has a common area, kitchen, and bathroom.
Students were placed in temporary housing at the start of the school year. Durham lived in a room on the Athletes in Action campus off Detroit Street in Xenia. The university placed other students in the Providence apartment complex in Fairborn. All of the off campus students have been moved into the new residence hall or Green and Anderson residence halls.
“They first placed me in Athletes in Action, and now I’m staying in Green,” sophomore
Courtney Shambley said.
Shambley said that she hasn’t yet been told when she can move into the new dorm. “The building that I’m staying in is a three out of ten. It’s an old building, and I’m not able to have space for my belongings,” Shambley said.
Fry said the unfinished wing of the new residence hall should be completed by Nov. 21, 2019. The wing will then have to pass inspection and receive permits before it is occupied by students.
