New athletics director

Gold Torch Writer

Central State University welcomed a new athletics director fall semester of 2018.

Tara A. Owens assumed the position formerly held by Jahan Culbreath, who served as athletics director and the vice president of Institutional Advancement for several years. Culbreath remains vice president of Institutional Advancement.

“I’ve had former experience with being an athletics director for eight years at Baltimore City Community College,” Owens said.

Before Owens pursued becoming an athletics director, she was a women’s basketball coach at Cheyney University in Pennsylvania.

“Ms. Owens is very passionate about her work, and she expresses that through her enthusiasm for each sports team here at Central State University,” junior Asha Caldwell said.

Student athletes and coaches are excited to see what she Owens has planned for the future.
