Central State University will soon hire a new football coach.
“We are coming to a close on who will be our next football Head Coach,” said Charity Townes, the administrative coordinator of Athletics.
Former head coach Cedric Pearl was fired on Nov. 22, 2019. Pearl had a 19 – 41 record over six years and never had a winning season. The team twice went 5 – 5.
Football players are anxious to learn who will be their coach next year. “The athletic department needs to keep us updated instead of telling us who our new head coach is at the last minute,” starting cornerback Chris Lewis said.
Players began off-season training Jan. 28, 2020. “We are getting ready for next season,” Lewis. “Once we get our new head coach we can really get things rolling.”
Students are hoping that the football team can start winning again. “Coming into my freshmen year and seeing the football team having a bad season sucked,” freshman Devin Kenerson said. “With this new coach I hope they turn things around.”
