Central State’s Mr. CSU will appear on the cover of Ebony Magazine after finishing in the top 10 of an online vote. Senior Mark Barton will be the first Central State “king” to appear on the cover.
Barton competed against 29 other “kings” from historically black universities in the competition. Ms. CSU, Taylor Chapman, also competed in the online poll but did not finish in the top 10. However, Chapman had more competition. A total of 60 “queens” competed in the poll.
Chapman said that she was thrilled to be part of the competition and to bring a spotlight to the school. “Central State is not one of the bigger HBCUs in the world, so exposure like this could help the university,” Chapman said.
Ebony has not announced which cover will feature the HBCU students. However, Barton will not be the first CSU student to appear on the cover. Last year’s Ms. CSU, Tatyana Adams, was the first royal court member to make the cut.
