Central State University held two informational meetings in February for students interested in becoming residence advisors. More than 300 students attended the meetings.
“I hope anyone that had any interest in being an RA next fall semester was here,” Residence Advisor Brooke Foster said. “It’s really a great experience with great benefits such as having your room and board paid, your own room, and a paycheck!”
Director of Residence Life Justyn Fry explained to students the eligibility requirements and application procedures for the advisor positions. The jobs are open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors with at least a 2.6 grade point average and no judicial conduct infractions.
Interested students must submit a resume, cover letter, letter of recommendation, and a professional photo through the Handshake job portal. Students can either download the Handshake phone app or go to the website joinhandshake.com. Upon signing in, students will need to indicate Central State as their school. They should then type the name of the position, “returning resident advisor application,” which will bring up the application form.
Applications are due March 8 by 5 p.m. Interviews will be held the week following Spring Break. The university will announce new hires the first week of June.
Sophomore Rossaria Booth is interested in becoming an RA. “I’m going to apply, but I’m nervous about the interview process, since so many other students want the position too,” Booth said.
