Two of Central State University’s Greek organizations presented their new members April 4, 2019. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Delta Xi Chapter accepted eight new members. Mu Phi Epsilon accepted six new members.
Greek organizations present their new members in a “probate” ceremony. New members wear masks until they are “revealed” to the public.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. probate started at exactly 7:06 p.m., in recogition of the fraternity’s founding in 1906.
Students, faculty, and family members waited patiently in the parking lot of Green and Anderson residence halls for the ceremony to begin. As the new members approached, the crowd began to become loud and excited. Once the new members arrived, they took off their hoods, and began to recite the Greek alphabet, acknowledging other fraternities and sororities, and recognizing their big brothers.
“Proud would be an understatement,” former student Frederick Hayes said. “They worked so hard to get these letters, and I couldn’t ask for any other group of guys to be my neos.”
Mu Phi Epsilon Fraternity Inc. Gamma Eta Chapter presented its members later in the evening inside Paul Robeson auditorium. Family members, faculty, and students appeared in support of the new “line” of students joining the music fraternity.
“These past weeks have been anything but simple,” new member Amber Zanders said.
“However, anything you want in life is not going to be achieved without an fight!”
Mu Phi Epsilon is one of the few Greek ogranizations on campus to accept both men and women as members.
