Hundreds of students attended Central State’s annual Organization Fair August 27, 2019, in the University Center. “Many (students) find their purpose, and really begin to connect with their university on a different level outside of academics at the fair,” student Adrienne Oglesby said. The Inter-Organizational Council and Office of Student Engagement host the annual Organization Fair, which is designed to get students involved, active, and engaged with the University. Students visited tables sponsored by various campus organizations and spoke to upper classmen about opportunities with these groups. Some organizations provided snacks and giveaways. A disc jockey entertained students while two fraternities put on a short step show. Student Tom Johnson, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, performed at the fair. He and his fraternity brothers strolled around the venue, having fun with one another and showing prospective Kappas what they can become a part of some day. “Organization fairs are important because students need something to do in their spare time,” Johnson said. University administrators say it’s important for students to join a campus organization. Being part of an organization helps student enter the workforce. Holding an elected position in a campus group, such as becoming a treasurer or secretary, can help students develop leadership skills and a sense of responsibility. Students can also make friends through campus organizations. These friends are a valuable support system while students are away from home. Group members often say they feel like family. “The org fair my freshman year gave me the chance to find a new family that I love and bond with so dearly today, which was the Student Government Association,” Sophomore Class President Shay Watson said.
