The campus activities boards and student governments of both Central State and Wilberforce universities held ‘The Battle of the Aux Cord’ April 15, 2019, in Paul Robeson Auditorium. The Battle kicked off a week of collaborative events entitled, “CSWU Week.”
Hundreds of students jammed Robeson for the The Battle of the Aux Cord. During the competition, the host invited two students on stage. She then challenged each student to find a song -- from a specific genre of music -- from their personal playlist or an online music provider.
“We had all types of wacky genres to choose from so that students could step out of their comfort zone,” Keyes said. Whichever student received the best feedback from the audience, won that round.
“I was pretty nervous getting up on stage and choosing a song,” student Michael Yates said. “I really just had to go with my gut and hope for the best.” The crowd gave positive and negative feedback depending on the song selection.
CSWU week also included D.I.Y. spirit gear, a Gospel concert, and a block party.
“We felt like it would be a positive experience to bring both schools together to have fun and just forget the rivalry and tension between us,” said Symone Keyes, event host and C.A.B. member.
The theme for ‘CSWU’ week was, “nobody wins when the family feuds.” Organizers encouraged students from each university to set aside their differences and come together to have a good time before the end of the school year.
Students seemed to have enjoyed CSWU and worked well together despite the fact that they attend different universities.
“I actually enjoyed this event, being able to collaborate positively with another school gave me hope for the university as a whole.” student Candace Woods said.
