Cleanup time at Central

Students at Central State University have had a long semester and with finals almost over it’s time to clean out the residence halls and see what the summer has planned.

“I have had a long school year, and I cannot wait until I get back home for summer break,” freshman Grayson Green said. But not every student will be heading home for the summer as summer classes will begin on May 13, 2019, and will last five to ten weeks. Students who do not rent an apartment off campus will have to apply for summer housing with the university.

Summer housing applications are to be submitted no later than the end of finals week. Students who are approved will be able to move into their dorm of choice starting May 11, 2019, right before summer sessions begin the following Monday.

Students who plan on living in the residence halls over the summer will live in their selected room until July and then will have to move back out until fall semester begins in the middle of August.

Students should clean out their rooms, so that maintenance workers are not overwhelmed with work at the end of the term. The University will have RAs check the rooms before students head home to ensure that the rooms are clean. If students do not clean their rooms before checking out, they will be subject to a $500 fine. Workers will place large disposal bins outside the residence halls, so that students can throw away trash.

“I am really strict when it comes to checking people out of their rooms for the semester, because I do not want them to get a $500 fine from the university while they’re home enjoying their summer,” senior RA Xavier Johnson said.

RAs check to ensure that students have cleaned their rooms and left university property – beds, dressers, and chairs – in the rooms.
