Blowout at McPherson

The Invincible Marching Marauders performed their annual Blowout Session at the spring game in McPherson Stadium April 13, 2019.

“For the spring performances I like to step back and let the band’s leaders help arrange and pick songs,” Band Director William Key said

The Blowout Session is the Marching band’s final performance of the year. It is also an opportunity to recruit and audition new members. Many current members got their start with the bad at previous Blowouts.

“One of the first times I saw the band was at the spring game in 2016,” Sophomore tuba player Obed Ifebueme said.

The band played a mix of songs at the blowout ranging from rap tunes such as “that’s on me,” “please me,” and “choppa style,” to ballads and R&B classics.

The band has been recruiting at local high school band competitions over the past year. Key has also been taking small groups of musicians to local high schools to speak with the students. The band will travel to more football games in the 2019 season, including the Gulf Coast City Classic against Alabama A&M, in the hope of attracting new students.
