Turn up the heat!

Students living together squabble about a lot of things: trash, music, smoking, visitors, and more. Some students in the new Marauder Pride Community have another thing to argue about: the heat.

The problem is that in many housing units the thermostat that controls the heat and air conditioning is located in one of the bedrooms, which means that the student in that room controls the temperature in all of the other rooms.

“I wish I had my own thermostat!” senior Roshay Timmons said.

Students wonder why the university didn’t place thermostats in the common areas of all the housing units. “That was the contractor’s design in terms of their placement,” Housing Director Justyn Fry said. “We’re working towards rectifying this in the future.”

Some apartments in the Marauder Pride community have more than one thermostat reducing any chance for conflict about the heat. Junior Danya McNeil, who lives in a quad, said that there are thermostats in each of her unit’s four bedrooms. “They should’ve gave everyone the same (setup),” she said.

Students are limited in adjusting the heat no matter where their thermostats are located. The temperature cannot be set higher than 75 degrees.
