Central State University recognized more than 400 students for academic success April 2, 2019, at the 132nd Honors Day Convocation.
“I’m honored, honestly,” the sophomore class top scholar said. “We are all capable. Hopefully, my hard work inspires someone to go beyond their limits.”
Students who achieved at least a 3.2 grade point average made the Dean’s List. Gold Cord scholars achieved a 3.5 grade point average each of their four years at Central State. The university also honored a “top scholar” for each class. Each of those students had a four point grade average.
“This is something to brag about,” Provost Pedro Martinez said. “And if they won’t then I’ll brag for them.” Junior Trevon Edwards, the Academic Affairs senator for the Student Government Association, said that his peers raised the bar because of their accomplishments. “I am amazed, he said. “These are the type of students that Central State University will continue to breed.”
Gold Cord honoree Jessica Smith will graduate with a psychology major. “I made a goal for myself and I promised to never give up,” Smith said. “I just really hope my peers know that it wasn’t an easy road. I stress and cry just like them, but it is so worth it.”
Smith will graduate May 4, 2019, in a ceremony at the Dayon Convention Center.
