Searching for a new president

Central State University is searching for its next president and is asking for help from the university community to find him or her. The university held meetings with students, staff, and faculty during Homecoming Week asking for their input.

“The school is moving in the right direction and someone has to step in and keep our school intact,” junior Wayne Trotter said. “(We need) a hardworking person who takes initiative.”

Central State’s curent president Cyhthia Jackson-Hammond announced in September that she would leave the university at the end of the year. Dr. B. Sherrance Russell, the Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, said the next president should emulate Jackson-Hammond who he calls “committed, generous and relentless.”

“President Hammond is committed to CSU's future and extremely generous in giving her time to others for the good of CSU,” Russell said. “The next president will need to understand the legacy and the culture of CSU.”

The university hopes to hire the next president by the end of the Spring term. The Board of Trustees has hired an outside consultant, Academic Search, to facilitate the search. It has also appointed a twelve member search committee including three members of the board, the president of the University Senate, the president of the alumni association, the president of the Student Government Association, and the mayor of Xenia.

"We believe these individuals represent a distinct cross section of stakeholders of Central State University, both on campus, throughout the region, and the State of Ohio," said CSU Board of Trustees Vice-Chair Larry Macon in a press release Sept. 6, 2019.

University stakeholders may provide comments on the search by emailing the search committee at: CentralStatePresident@academicsearch.org . Jackson-Hammond’s resignation is effective June 22, 2020.
