Central State University Career Services has a grant to pay students who obtain internships.
“This is a great chance for students to get hands on experience and prepare students for future careers,” Director of Career Services Karla Harper said.
More than 50 students have received money since the fall of 2018 through the Great Lakes Project Success Internship Program. The program allows colleges to pay students who secure unpaid internships on or off campus. The program also covers the cost of developing employer partnerships and matching students with internship opportunities.
Students can participate in the program once a semester while working a maximum of 195 hours.
Central State junior James William is interning with the Central State Sports Information Office spring term. “This internship is helpful, because I can now work on campus, not far from home, and make money so I can pay for things I need as well as want,” William said. William said the sports internship allowed him to quit another job, which required him to travel 30 minutes to and from work.
Senior Shawnte Jones is also taking advantage of the internship program. “Now I can begin paying off my student loans and improve my skills for my future career,” Jones said. “In addition, I can buy things I need and am better able to help pay bills.”
If you, or someone you know is looking for an internship, contact Career Services, located on the second floor of the University Student Center to see what opportunities may be available to you.
