Central State University students have the opportunity to travel to Brazil over the summer on a Campus Crusades for Christ (Cru) mission trip. The trip will last from May 15 to June 15 in the city of Florianopolis.

“Expect to have significant times of prayer, Bible study, ministry training, and fun,” Team Leader Bacho Bordjadze said.

Students must be a member of Cru to be eligible for the mission trip. They must be sponsored by a Cru staff member and provide two personal references. Participants must also undergo an interview and raise $5000 to cover the cost of the trip.

Fifty two Central State University students currently belong to Cru, though only one is expected to participate in the summer mission. The cost of the trip has made it impossible for many students to participate. Student Ryanna Lowe does not feel as though she can raise the required $5000.

Cru staff members promise thaat there will be less expensive mission trips in the future.

“The best part about missions from Campus Crusades for Christ is that they are practically year round,” said Kerri Bumpers, a staff member assigned to Central State.

The Cru ministry has been serving college students since 1951. The group is active on 3,500 campuses in the U.S. and overseas, including The Ohio State University and Central State. Student Jaylen Johnson joined Cru to grow closer to God. He believes that joining the group is “fulfilling a prophecy.” Student Janelle Lightbourn is grateful for Cru. She became a Christian after joining the group.
