CSU reaches out to community

Gold Torch Writer

Central State opened a new location in February at the Xenia Reach Center on Progress Road. The Reach Center includes the CSU Outreach Center, a new YMCA, a senior citizens center, and space for Clark State Community College.

Central State will host a small number of classes at the center beginning this summer. The university plans to offer agriculture classes at the site as part of its Land Grant mission. It will offer other courses, including recreation courses, depending on demand. Administrators hope that the Outreach Center will help attract more commuter students to Central State.

”I know this will increase our numbers for incoming classes,” Admissions Director James Burrell said. “We project this will increase our enrollment at least 200-350 students and improve our retention rates.”

The Outreach Center boasts three classrooms, including lab space, and an office. The center will be staffed on a part-time basis by workers from the Office of Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Undergraduate Success Center. Students will ultimately be able to enroll for college at this “one stop shop” location.

“This was best thing they could of done,” Burrell said. “Me and my team are working on changing the face of the University.”
