Former Central State University football quarterback Trent Mays has sparked some serious conversation around campus. Mays has been accused of sexually assaulting a former CSU student while she was intoxicated.
“I really hate how men treat women sometimes,” Central State junior Daniel Ross said. “It makes the rest of us look bad.”
Mays allegedly put his penis on the woman’s forehead after she had passed out from drinking. He then allegedly used the woman’s phone to take a photo of the incident. The woman later posted the photo on Twitter. Neither person can be identified in the photo.
This isn’t Mays’ first reported brush with controversy. In 2013, Mays and another student were convicted of raping a 16-year old girl in Steubenville, Ohio. The two football players used their fingers to digitally penetrate the girl and were deemed “delinquent beyond a reasonable doubt." She too had passed out from being heavily intoxicated.
Many Central State students and staff are outraged by this latest incident. They wonder how a convicted sex offender ended up at Central. Admission Director James Burrell said that a criminal record does not necessarily preclude a student for gaining admission to the school. “The procedures and rules in place keep the admissions committee from being biased or discriminating against any student with a criminal record or has had to register as a sex offender,” he said.
Central State Police Chief Stephanie Hill said the alleged incident occurred off campus. Furthermore, she said that the alleged victim was not a student at Central State. Hill said that she could not provide any more information about the case because of federal privacy laws.
Mays is still enrolled in school.
